First Game Jam

So this was my first game jam, well first successfully completed one at least. Having two small kids I rarely get any time for hobbies outside of the hours of 1am to 5am so when I saw there was a 3 hr game jam I thought of course I could find 3 hrs in my weekend. Ok maybe 2 hrs...ok 1.5hrs. The only goal I had was to complete something. A goal I often fail to achieve with other projects due to life. I think the first goal has been accomplished.

While I've been doing development for nearly two decades the challenge of a completely new subject matter along with new tools will help keep me motivated. I think the biggest take away here, at least for game jams, is that I need to pare down the work in areas that might be better suited with with less work. All my art was made in less than 5 minutes. I was planning on eventually do actual good sprites, animate them etc. But rather than just doing a bunch of color blocks I made something slightly more interesting as the prototype just in the highly likely chance I never actually get around to doing better art. Could have just made some colored whisps, maybe do particles, and that would have been a better look than what I output. Some basic sounds would have been nice too, but not getting a 2hr nap out of the kids meant I just barely got the code working, few bugs fixed and then publish.

Since its my first game jam publish I probably won't go back and fix anything. Archive code and move on.
